PIGMENTATION SPOTS AND CHLOASMA

How can I get rid of spots caused by the weather or the sun?

The body is marked by different spots of irregular shapes and colours. Moreover, no matter your age, whether you have a pale or dark complexion, you are not immune to skin hyperpigmentation. Some spots may have been present since birth and others may appear over time due to various factors, such as exposure to the sun.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THESE PIGMENTATION SPOTS?

Several causes are at the root of pigmentation spots or skin hyperpigmentation. Among theses causes, there are:

  • hormonal fluctuations;
  • genetic predispositions;
  • excessive exposure to the sun;
  • skin trauma;
  • the taking of medication.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPOTS

Pregnancy mask or chloasma

Bearing the scientific name of CHLOASMA, the pregnancy mask is a brownish/greyish pigmentation on the face. It results from increased hormonal activity during pregnancy.

Freckles

Also called “skin sprinkles” these spots appear most often during childhood. They have no relief and are more common in people with very fair skin tone or blonde/red hair. A particular sign: freckles tend to appear or darken after exposure to the sun.

Brown spots

Also known as “age spots” or “lentigo,” these spots appear mainly in the forties following long exposures to the sun, specifically to ultraviolet rays. However, brown spots can appear as well as in the early thirties if the skin has not been protected adequately.

Birthmarks

This type of spot, which varies from light to dark brown, is rarely raised. They appear at birth, but they can also appear during the first year of life.
